RBS 060 - "Tintinnabultion" - December 2016
Motorized ring lift rolling ball sculpture with 1" marbles.
28"H x 36"W x 11"D - Acrylic hand painted details. Signed, dated and numbered. ~17 - 1" blue and blue/yellow glass marbles. With 3 ringing bells, and 5 hand-made chimes. Whimsical corner details and a hand painted steel panel in the base.
RBS 060 is called "Tintinnabulation" - the sound of pealing bells and a favorite word from my childhood.
All the bells and whistles were requested, so I literally added bells and whistles (well bells and handmade chimes anyway). This work was for a fine young man named Kyle, and his name is on the sculpture, in metal. I was surprised by just how nice the bells and the chimes sounded too. The hand painted panel in the base contains a lot of dots. Dot painting for me is a great meditative practice. I am very pleased with this dot painting.
A note regarding photographing the sculptures - the action photos ofthe chimes being struck, or the marble going through the loop, well, for those single pictures I must have taken 20 photographs each of them to get it just right. Very fun. And this piece, as well as others, features a wave form at the top which functions as a handle to carry the sculpture when needed.
This kinetic marble sculpture is signed "Jendro" in metal on the base, and also signed and numbered and dated on the reverse side of the painted panels. It can be mounted on a wall using the adjustable wall mounts on the sculpture, or it can be set on a table. It is designed to do either. The sculpture is also designed to survive shipping stresses too.
RBS 060 is a hubless ring design - the ring turns lightly on the shaft of the motor and lifts the marbles up. The hubless ring design means that there are no spokes in the center. This creates a hollow area for all the track to magically pass through the center of the sculpture.
